For Robert David Lion Gardiner (1911-2004), the house was Sagtikos, the first of several properties he would inherit throughout his life. Gardiner, the 16th Lord of the Manor of Gardiner’s Island–another Eden in which he inherited an interest–was also the last, having produced no offspring. This wasn’t for a lack of trying.
